Meaning of Symbols on Plastics


Popular because of lightweight plastic technology, not easily broken, and cheap. Beyond that, the use of plastic is very risky to the environment and health. So, you have to understand plastics are safe for use by understanding its symbols.
Here is the meaning of the symbols printed on a variety of plastic products.
1. PETE or PET (polyethylene terephthalate) plastic bottles commonly used in a transparent manner. Bottle is recommended only for single use. Do not use for warm water. Discard bottles which have long or visible scratches.
2. HDPE (high density polyethylene) bottles used for milk (for milk and white). Same as PET, HDPE is also recommended for single use only.
3. V or PVC (polyvinyl chloride) is the most difficult plastic recycling. Usually found on the wrap (cling wrap) and bottles. The content of his DEHA can leak and into the greasy food when heated. PVC harmful to the kidneys, liver, and weight.
4. LDPE (low density polyethylene) was used to place food and bottles of soft. This species can be recycled and good for those items that require flexibility.
5. PP (polypropylene) is the best choice for plastic materials, especially those related to food and beverages. Typically transparent bottles which do not form clear or cloudy.
6. PS (polystyrene) was used as a place to eat styrofoam or disposable drinking place. Polystyrene material could leak into food ingredients styrine when touched. Styrine harmful to the brain and nervous system.
7. Other (usually polycarbonate) can be found in the food and sports drinks. Bisphenol-A Polycarbonate issue that potentially damage the hormone system.
There are many plastic items that do not contain these symbols, especially locally made. Therefore, careful and be careful before deciding to use plastic as a wrap.
